AKRON, Ohio -- The Greater Akron area is undergoing its firstLGBTQ+ needs assessment, the first comprehensive wellness study for this community in the area.

Kent State’s College of Public Health research program coordinator Andrew Snyder came up with the idea, which culminated in a partnership between numerous civic and health care organizations spanning the region. Snyder will lead the project, which will assess:

  • health and wellness
  • religion and spirituality
  • education and literacy
  • housing, food and nutrition
  • business and commerce
  • safety and law enforcement
  • recreation and leisure.

Along with KSU, Summit County, the city of Akron and local organizations like the Gay Community Endowment Fund of Greater Akron, health care organizations including Summa Health, Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Summit County Public Health are also involved.
